US: Wall St opens higher on China trade de-escalation hopes, Fed decision

Wall Street’s main indexes opened slightly higher on Wednesday (May 7) as investors hoped for a de-escalation in trade tensions with Beijing and awaited the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates later in the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 127.1 points, or 0.31 per cent, at the open to 40,956.08.

The S&P 500 rose 7.3 points, or 0.13 per cent, at the open to 5,614.18​, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 17.2 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 17,706.827 at the opening bell. REUTERS
