The Fall 2025 Shopping Guide
We're entering an unprecedented time in fashion. Upward of 15 new creative directors will take the helm at the biggest fashion houses, where they will share their debut collections—Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, Demna at Gucci, Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta, Pierpaolo Piccioli at Balenciaga, to name a few of the most anticipated shows. We've already had a taste of what is to come with the first collections of Jonathan Anderson at Dior and Michael Rider at Celine, but it is still too early to tell what the next chapter for fashion will be. It could potentially be business as usual, but it could also be a moment of major change and groundbreaking ideas that shift the direction of fashion for the coming decades. Time will tell, and the industry at large is eager to see what unfolds in the spring/summer 2026 collections.
At the outset of this juncture, the fall/winter 2025 collections are beginning to arrive and will set the backdrop for what style looks like at this moment. Femininity was reinterpreted on the runways by brands like Prada and Miu Miu, resulting in a new wave of lace and lingerie pieces. Bohemian fashion has evolved from the '70s redux to a more modern interpretation, including looks styled with tassel belts and lots of layers. Preppy bourgeois style is in full swing, silhouettes are shifting with the comeback of peplums, and a new mood is romanticizing the simplicity of dressing for country life. Miuccia Prada put romantic style at the center of her designs for Miu Miu and Prada this season. This carried across fashion month, and in many cases, we saw fashion houses bring back women's fashion archetypes—such as satin, lace, bras, and lingerie—and reinterpret them for 2025. At Miu Miu and Givenchy, satin bras were a focal point of the looks meant to be seen rather than hidden beneath the clothing. At Chloé and Fendi, lace-trimmed slip dresses were the centerpieces of the looks. Already in 2025, we've seen satin lace shorts and skirts reach an almost cult-like following, and this isn't slowing down in the second half of the year. The delicate designs are adding a soft touch to dressing for fall.

We've been reporting on the return of preppy style for several seasons now. Ralph Lauren is hotter than ever, and Auralee is the brand all of the cool fashion people are talking about. Brands are getting into the tennis space. Pieces like polo tops, boat shoes, and cable-knit sweaters are key buys for the season. It wasn't until Rider's debut runway show for Celine in July that the prep comeback really felt solidified, though. The buzzy show ushered in bourgeois style with bold pops of color, printed satin scarves, and even some popped collars, which are making an immediate impact on style. The spring/summer 2026 collection won't arrive until next year but is already pointing to where fashion will be headed.

Country life has been romanticized lately—often portraying a slower life set on a manicured farmhouse tucked into a pastoral landscape with animals roaming the property and vintage cars parked in the driveway. This matches up with what unfolded in the collections, too, as designers embraced countryside style with a polished take on dressing for rural pursuits like riding. At Altuzarra, Fair Isle knits, crisp oxford shirts, jodhpurs, and riding boots felt primed for the stables. Ralph Lauren's romantic vision brought tartan halterneck dresses and hardware-embellished accessories to the runway, and Daniel Lee tapped into Burberry's rich heritage of British country style with checked outerwear and scarves. Checked shirts appeared at Calvin Klein and Celine, one of the hero buys for this trend that we're already seeing in the wardrobes of the fashion set for fall.

The silhouette of the season? Nipped-in waists in the form of hourglass shapes and peplum pieces. The figure-defining proportions showed up during New York Fashion Week, notably at Khaite, then took hold everywhere in Milan and Paris. Key buys include a great peplum jacket to pair with tailored trousers and heels—as seen on the runways at Altuzarra and Schiaparelli—and a beautiful dress like the lace-trimmed mini style at Dior or the elegant midi version at Givenchy. It's been about a decade since we've seen peplums hit this hard, so they're right on time for their comeback.

For her debut Chloé collection for fall/winter 2024, Chemena Kamali single-handedly brought bohemian style back to the fashion space with the return of billowy pastel chiffon dresses, vintage floral prints, oversize sunglasses, and even the reissue of the iconic Paddington bag. A few seasons later, boho is taking on new forms. The aesthetic has shifted from '70s fashion into a more modern space with layered looks and lots of texture. At Dries Van Noten, a slinky blouse and trousers are topped with jewelry and a printed sash belt. At Tod's, a fringed scarf anchors the outfit. At Alaïa, a tactile skirt and jacket add a sense of polish to bohemian dressing. Pendant and tassel necklaces are key styling pieces that were part of the fashion set's uniform this summer, and the boho accessories will continue to be layered into looks for fall. Tassel belts, too, will be big next season—a piece we're seeing in the collections of insider brands such as Kallmeyer and Attersee.
