Summer 2025 is going to be the season of the pretty blouse, trust me. It’s not that this type of cute top hasn’t been popular during the warmer months before, but with the lean towards minimalism and quiet luxury, the last few summers have really championed a simple tank top over anything else—and now the tide is turning again. You’re talking to the tank top’s number one fan here, and even I’m about to switch them out for a couple of floaty blouses to wear for the months ahead. When it came to writing this article, and shopping for said blouses, I began to ask myself what exactly makes a blouse a blouse. Well, it’s usually quite floaty and loose fitting, right? And for summer that usually means a light linen, silk or cotton fabric. Personally, I see them mostly without a collar (surely that errs into shirt territory?) but technically I think it can go either way.
