Snow removal company gets ready for winter

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —While it snowed in Sioux Falls already this season, none of the snow stuck around for long.

While some people may not enjoy the thought of snow being around, it’s a welcome thought for the crew at Arctic Winter Management.

“We love snow. It’s our industry. You know, we depend on it. It’s our livelihood, a part of our business,” Owner, Arctic Winter Management, Dan Pyle said.

Which is why they are already getting ready for the next snowfall.

“We’ve got a lot of equipment that needs to have oil changes, you know, regular maintenance, been sitting around for, you know, six months. So it’s time to switch out from summer to winter,” Pyle said.

Last year, the winter was a little bit slow for the snow removal company. So slow that instead of plowing snow at the end of January, they ended up mowing.

“Trending over the last two years, we’ve seen these really light, inconsistent totals. You know, they’re going to come in at an inch and sometimes we get less, sometimes we get more, a little more unpredictability on it. Usually we used to get snow, you know, you get six inches overnight,” Pyle said.

But the staff is hopeful that this year will be bountiful in the snow department.

“I think it’s going to be colder. And I think the first part of December, middle of December we’re going to start seeing a lot more snow,” Shop supervisor, Arctic Winter Management, Jason Hoffman said.

No matter how much snow we get, the crews are just excited to be back in the plows.

“We are ready. We had that little bit of snow this past week and kind of got to work out the bugs and stuff on the equipment, so we’re ready to go,” Hoffman said.
