Police chase, shoot east Jerusalem suspect in possession of gun, likely criminal in nature


Israel Police shot and wounded a 28-year-old eastern Jerusalem resident after he fled officers during a chase in Silwan. The case appears criminal.

Israel Police officers shot a 28-year-old resident of east Jerusalem who tried to flee on Tuesday night, Walla learned.

The suspect was driving in a vehicle in eastern Jerusalem, arousing suspicion that he possessed a weapon.

After refusing orders to stop his vehicle, he began to flee.

Police officers began a chase through Silwan, near Jerusalem’s Old City, as the suspect exited their vehicle and continued to flee on foot.

Police officers fired warning shots, with the suspect turning to face them, when officers noticed he possessed a weapon.

Suspect hospitalized in serious condition

The suspect was wounded when police officers opened fire, and he was taken to hospital. He is believed to be in serious condition.

The incident is believed to be criminal in nature.
