Man suspected of recruiting IS supporters arrested in Germany

Police in southern Germany have arrested a suspected supporter of the Islamic State terrorist militia.

The 20-year-old is accused of recruiting members or supporters for a terrorist organization abroad, the Lower Franconia Police Headquarters and the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office said on Tuesday.

There are no indications of concrete plans for attacks or specific threats posed by the suspect. He was remanded in custody last Friday.

According to reports, the young man, who has German and Syrian citizenship, was arrested last Thursday in the Bavarian district of Kitzingen.

After extensive investigations, suspicions were confirmed that the 20-year-old had actively recruited members and supporters for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization via a messaging service.

The suspect is also alleged to have called on others to take the oath of allegiance.

Another person, whose gender has not been disclosed, is said to have actually sworn this IS oath of allegiance to the 20-year-old. No further details were initially disclosed.
