Macron: Gaza plan must lead to peace via two-state solution
French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday welcomed the agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on the release of hostages and an end to the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
“This agreement must mark the end of the war and the beginning of a political solution based on the two-state solution,” Macron said.
“France is ready to contribute to this goal. We will discuss this with our international partners this afternoon in Paris,” Macron said, referring to a conference on the implementation of the US peace plan for Gaza and support after the end of the war.
“I call on all parties to strictly adhere to the terms” of the agreements, Macron said, adding that it was a source of “great hope” for the hostages and their families, for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and for the entire region.
