Look: British sanctuary’s escaped flamingo spotted in France
Nov. 11 (UPI) — A young flamingo that escaped from a British wildlife sanctuary has been spotted on a beach in northern France, officials said.
Paradise Park in Cornwall, England, said the female flamingo, named Frankie, escaped Nov. 2 by flying over a wall, despite her clipped feathers.
Two photographs captured Sunday show a young flamingo on a beach in Treflez, Finistere, in northern France.
Paradise Park director Nick Reynolds said the bird in the photos is believed to be Frankie.
“We’re pretty certain it is Frankie from the photos we’ve seen,” he told the BBC. “You can see the right wing has some feathers missing, which is where we would have cut her wings to keep her here. We’re just waiting for some more pictures to come through for better confirmation.”
He said bird flu regulations would complicate the process of capturing Frankie and returning her to Britain, so keepers are hoping Frankie will link up with a wild colony of greater flamingos in France.
“The best scenario would be that Frankie goes and finds them and lives out her life with them,” Reynolds said.
