I’m a Jewellery-Obsessed Fashion Editor—These Chic Pieces Are Elevating My Summer Outfits
As a fashion editor, I’m often asked the same questions. “What should I wear to this event?”, “What accessories go with that dress?”, “How can I look expensive without breaking the bank?” You get the idea. There are two pieces of styling advice that I hand out time and again, and luckily for you, I don’t gatekeep.
Firstly, no matter how fashion-oriented you are, no matter how much you love to adopt trends, try to shop with a sense of timelessness in mind. Ask yourself, “Will I want to wear this in a year’s time?” If the answer is no, then try to avoid it. My second piece of advice—especially when it comes to styling and how to wear certain clothes—is to never overlook jewellery. After over a decade of doing my job, I’ve learned that great jewellery is often the answer to truly elevating an outfit. Because sometimes, it’s the smaller finishing details that make the biggest difference.

Despite wearing my go-to Mejuri pieces all year, summer really does feel like jewellery’s time to shine. Bare necks are the ultimate blank canvas, and wrists aren’t suffocated with layers of knitwear, nor hands with gloves. With a slew of holidays, long, lazy evenings spent with friends outside after work, and weekend after weekend of weddings, festivals and other special occasions, there are endless options to change up, layer and curate our jewellery look.
Whilst I’d definitely consider myself a collector of jewellery, it doesn’t mean I have rigid rules as to where and when an item can be worn, and I always encourage people to get the most out of anything they purchase, be it jewellery, shoes, handbags or clothing. For example, you should get just as much wear out of a tennis bracelet for everyday as on special occasions. Style Notes: Lounging by the pool, book ready to read, volume turned to the max on the summer playlist… I live for a pool day! Whilst I love silver jewellery and do mix my metals on occasion, I’m a gold girl on holiday. There’s something about sun-kissed skin that feels so sultry alongside gold tones. Now I know I can wear Mejuri’s 14kt pieces even in water, I need never worry about remembering to take off each piece before a dip in the pool or sea, which is great, because these casual-cool summer looks are all about layering multiple pieces. Bracelets, earrings, necklaces—if there’s an ear, digit or limb on which to adorn something, you best believe I’m doing so.
Right now, I love stacking my smaller hoop earrings and wearing a bandana to help show them off. Style Notes: This look is all about more elevated holiday dressing. Perhaps it’s a wedding abroad, a special dinner out or in this case, cocktails by the pool during golden hour. My look is usually a bit more… extroverted, shall we say, so I’ve removed some of the additional pieces used for layering and swapped my earrings so there isn’t too much going on. In my ears are the Charlotte Bold Hoops, which make more of an impact than the slimmer hoops I wore for the previous look, but again, aren’t too overpowering.
As I want to achieve a more classic look here, I’ve removed a bracelet and the zodiac necklace (which Hannah is wearing instead), and added this Pavé Diamond Ring to elevate the look to feel a little more evening-ready. Hannah, who is more of a minimalist when it comes to accessorising, is wearing the stunning Ziggy Ring and the Brioche Hoops (both in gold) alongside her Gemini pendant.

Style Notes: Full disclosure: I’m not a great tennis player. But just because I don’t play so well, doesn’t mean I won’t dress the part (all the gear, and all that!). Whilst I may be a seasonal tennis player, I’m a highly active person, walking my dogs daily, running and going to gym classes on my lunch break. If for no other reason than ease, I seek out jewellery I don’t need to take off, like earrings I can wear for work and play and necklaces that don’t hit me in the face when I’m moving about. Also, there’s something so effortlessly cool about a sporty look with a few jewellery accents.
As we approach Wimbledon, the marker of tennis season in the UK, I really wanted to style some classic tennis pieces. The sterling silver Zadie Bezel tennis necklace features lab-grown sapphires, which, like the matching bracelet I’m also wearing, sparkle when they hit the light. Tennis bracelets and necklaces are quite traditional, so I wanted this look to feel a little more casual and “athleisure”. This is aptly named, because I’m often borrowing my husband’s jewellery (in fact, his wedding band is Mejuri). Style Notes: Wimbledon is a huge moment in the sporting (and let’s be honest, social) calendar. It’s definitely a reason to dress up, but unlike other events like Ascot, you don’t need to overdress. This gingham two-piece is perfect; it’s short and sweet, and the check print feels apt for this time of year. I’m wearing a lot of the same jewellery, but it feels completely different when worn this way.
Wanting to achieve something more pared-back and classic, I’ve removed the two chains and kept the Zadie tennis style on my wrist and neck. I love the shorter length of this necklace; it feels elegant, almost like an alternative to a pearl choker.
