How to Style a Bubble Skirt in 2025: Your Favorite Trend Is All Grown Up

I knew bubble skirts were coming back after seeing them all over the runways, but they’ve really gone to the next level in the past few weeks. What was first a summer micro-trend that brought on the nostalgia is now a seasonless staple even minimalists are going after in the fall (styled with a blazer of course).

Yes, were talking about the silhouette you once associated with middle school dances, but high-fashion designers (ahem, Prada, Tibi, Chloé, and more) have reimagined it but with a minimalist twist. We’re seeing it in crisp poplin instead of tulle and neutral palettes instead of neon. Finally, the bubble skirt is all grown up. Between the runway resurgence and the cool-girl street style moments, I decided to give the trend another shot and have already styled it a few ways this fall. Here’s how some of my favorite fashion people and I are wearing our bubble skirts—less nostalgic and more “editor off-duty.”

My favorite bubble skirt I have worn to date simply has to be this brown one from Cinq à Sept. It perfectly encompasses how I believe this trend should transition into fall. The chocolate-brown color and maxi length makes such a statement, so I’m excited about wearing it into the winter months.

If you’re not shy about this trend and want to go all in, I suggest taking notes on Chloe King’s attire during Paris Fashion Week this season. She wore this layered, taffeta skirt with a leather bomber that felt like the perfect combination of Chloé meets Saint Laurent. We love a good moment for maximalism.

Moschino loves to play dress-up, and its collection of dollhouse-inspired dresses is no exception. Another fashion month win for bubble skirts is inspired by this balloon-like dress that takes a classic silhouette to new levels.

Here’s to the dress that totally took over my Instagram feed this summer. Smart fashion people are wearing it with a sweater and trench coat on top into fall. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing even more of it once vacation season picks up again.

This is the look that fully convinced me bubble skirts aren’t going anywhere when the weather turns cold. This blazer and matching skirt scream fall with a touch of that lingering playful element from summer that I just simply can’t get enough of.
