Ayo Edebiri Gives a Slinky, Silky Salute to Chanel’s New Era

Ayo Edebiri made her Venice Film Festival debut last month in some of Matthieu Blazy’s first custom looks for Chanel. Working with her go-to stylist Danielle Goldberg and the new creative director Blazy, Ayo wore a modern take on the signature Chanel tweed suit, and an archive-inspired red gown with a dramatic tiered waistline and ruby buttons that took the Chanel team 270 hours to make. Both looks built on the storied house codes, and spoke to Blazy’s vision and Edebiri’s own personal style.

Stepping out for the New York Film Festival yesterday evening (September 27), Edebiri wore a Chanel dress that suggests a new creative chapter for the house. Her black dress featured a silk bodice and sheer bateau panel with an overlapping halterneck, and fell into a close-fitting velvet skirt. She was styled with Chanel high jewelry crystal earrings and a thick banded crystal bracelet. On glam, she wore her hair in a wavy shoulder length bob, with smoky eyeshadow and rust red lipstick. It was an understated and elegant, yet modern-feeling look.

Edebiri joined co-stars including Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield on the red carpet for the Luca Guadagnino-directed film, After the Hunt. For the occasion, Roberts chose to stick to her penchant for suiting and wore a Vivienne Westwood fall 2025 blue print blazer and matching full skirt, with a tie adorned with vintage brooches.
