Arctic League still $43,000 away from Christmas gift goal
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM)— The Arctic League’s annual fundraiser for children in Chemung County hasn’t reached its goal yet.
Every year, the Arctic League raises money for Christmas gifts for children in need in Chemung County. Volunteers help pack up the gifts and deliver them to families on Christmas Eve.
The nonprofit organization is aiming to raise $175,000, but as of now, it is short $43,000. The money raised this year goes towards the Christmas gifts for children in 2026.

“It’s concerning to be honest with you. I’ve been a board member here since 2011, and I think every year we’ve hit our goal early and been able to close the book by now, and that’s not the situation this year, but it is what it is,” said Robby Robertson, the Arctic League Vice President.
Despite the challenges the Arctic League is facing, Arctic League President Karen Ring said she remains grateful for the support the organization has gotten so far.
“It makes me feel very happy for what people have already donated, but also very sad for what we are lacking because the money that we raise this year goes to buy toys for next year, 2026,” said Ring.

Organizers say the slower fundraising pace is not surprising because of the rise in inflation and financial strain on families.
“Times are tough, there’s no doubt about it nationally, statewide, locally, times are just tough. I mean, people are having to pinch pennies, so it’s a sign of the times, but it is something we’ve been through before,” said Robertson.

The Arctic League wants the public to know that any donation, no matter the size, helps the children be able to have presents under their trees.
“Any donation that anyone gives, they then become part of the Arctic League, and that’s what keeps this going, this amazing community and their support,” said Ring.
