Israeli airstrikes in Yemen kill at least nine people, Houthis say

At least nine people were killed and more than 100 wounded in Israeli airstrikes on Yemen on Wednesday, the Houthi movement said.

The Houthi-run health authority described the toll as preliminary, saying strikes hit both the capital, Sana’a, and Al-Jawf province.

Residents said casualties in the capital resulted from bombing that targeted the Ministry of Defence’s Moral Guidance headquarters in the capital’s Al-Tahrir neighbourhood, a densely populated area where old houses were damaged by the blasts.

The Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV channel earlier reported strikes on a government complex in Al-Hazm, the capital of Al-Jawf province.

The Israeli military confirmed it had struck targets in both areas, including military camps, the Houthis’ Military Public Relations headquarters and a fuel storage facility.

It said the Public Relations Department was responsible for disseminating propaganda, including speeches by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, and that the camps were used to plan and carry out attacks against Israel.

The Iran-aligned Houthis have repeatedly launched rockets and drones at Israel since the war in Gaza erupted in October 2023, describing the attacks as acts of solidarity with Hamas.

Earlier this week, the Houthis said their prime minister and several ministers were killed in an Israeli strike. On Tuesday, the Israeli military reported intercepting a rocket fired from Yemen and downing a Houthi drone.
