US: Wall Street opens higher on tariff exemption hopes

WALL Street’s main indexes opened higher on Thursday (Aug 7), buoyed by optimism that major technology companies could avoid US President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs on chip imports.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 237 points, or 0.54 per cent, at the open to 44,430.09. The S&P 500 rose 29.3 points, or 0.46 per cent, to 6,374.32​, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 155.6 points, or 0.73 per cent, to 21,325.01. REUTERS
