Shield Your Eyes! Oversized Sunglasses Ruled 2025

Last year, celebrities were split when it came to eyewear. Some were into itty-bitty shades, while others were all in on oversized sunglasses. But around the summer, we noticed that big sunglasses were taking the lead. Irina Shayk traipsed through Cannes in a pair of shield shades, while Amal Clooney stuck to her favorite square shades.

This year, celebs have embraced aviators, shield shades, and wraparounds of all varieties. Bottega Veneta proved a popular choice in the oversized camp, with Teyana Taylor and Miley Cyrus all testing out the brand’s frames. Balenciaga’s black shields count Rihanna and Rosalía as fans—the latter in Pierpaolo Piccioli’s bejeweled headpiece. Margot Robbie went the vintage route, in a pair of Phoebe Philo-era Celines.

Some were fond of inverted frames. Earlier this month, Jennifer Lawrence embraced statement accessories, styling a cheetah print Prada bag and a multicolored striped scarf with a pair of Dior glasses whose lenses pointed in toward her forehead. Andie MacDowell opted for a similar look in Max Mara at the Cannes Film Festival.
