Addressed: Snow Boots

Addressed is a weekly column about the act of getting dressed. Anything and everything is fair game for discussion, from animal prints and runway styling hacks to how to build the perfect winter shoe wardrobe.

A few weeks ago we discussed building a “winter shoe wardrobe,” but eagle-eye readers among you may have noticed that when it came to shoes you could wear during—and most crucially after—a snowstorm were not included. But lucky for you, we’re back to figure out what are some classic snow boots that are practical and stylish.

First, let’s get this out of the way, when you need something actually built for the elements, I’m a strict believer in going straight to the source—meaning, when you’re trying not to slip and fall and die, you go buy shoes at the outdoor gear shop. This is not the time for cutie fashion! That being said, the rise of “gorpcore” means that a lot of shoes actually made for the outdoors are also being designed with aesthetics in mind, and even the ones that aren’t still hold a strange kind of allure—or at least cool factor. Basically if you own the look, it will look good.

As a person who has lived in New York for almost 20 years, I have to start by talking about Timberlands, a certified city classic made to withstand the elements. If you are also a New York-dweller, then you really can’t go wrong with a pair, whether in the classic “Wheat” or one of their seasonal offerings—just look how good these patent ones look! Plus, they go with pretty much anything by virtue of being the official city shoe.
